President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation. That and all the other stuff he's not done or accomplished.
Great and if these initiatives never bear fruit do they make him give it back? Clearly promoting peace and harmony in your own country was not a requirement to win.Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.
The really sad part of this is the award lost anything resembling honor or value years ago. As with so many things today, something that should be honored and revered has been devalued to now just be a popularity contest......
Exit question: If I say I will invent time travel will I win a Nobel Prize next year?
