President Obama brought Republicans to the negotiating table on Tuesday, hoping to stem a steady deterioration in relations between the two parties that has brought business in Washington to a standstill, left the Democratic agenda in tatters and angered voters who are eager to have lawmakers address their concerns.True bi-partisanship would be fantastic. For this Administration to really start listening to the American people and what the majority of them want is good for everyone. Unfortunately, it is clear President Obama is nothing but talk on the issue of bi-partisanship-on the one hand pushing cooperation and on the other claiming yet again Republicans are the problem.
He accused Republicans of indiscriminate obstruction that he said has created legislative gridlock, especially in the Senate, but he also called on Democratic leaders to "put aside matters of party for the good of the country."Weirdly, the "indiscriminate obstruction" the President talks about is the GOP barely hanging on to the core concepts of being Republican.......and I mean barely. I continually complain about how far to the "stupid" our party has moved, but it does seem they are trying to take a value-based stance these days. So now we have a situation where the GOP might be getting a clue and the Dems are all very sad about it. You can't really blame them; after all those years of being Democrat lite, supporting big government and big spending all on their own, for Republicans to now be resistant is like a lovers betrayal.
President Obama needs to stop claiming bi-partisanship when what he really wants is complete submission. The Republicans have continually offered alternative ideas to the debt-ridden, economy killing policies proposed by "leaders" like Pelosi and Reid, only to be shot down at every turn.
When this Administration stops trying to make bi-partisanship look like an S&M session, maybe we can get something accomplished in this country.
Exactly my point as I called in to Jamie Allman after the SOTU. Funny how "bipartisanship" was absent when the dems had 60 votes in the Senate! The GOP was basically told to sit down and shut up as they were unnecessary and irrelevant anyway - and the Dems "had a mandate" to do anything they wanted. Republicans were EXCLUDED on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteAs SOON as Scott Brown won in MA, "BiPartisanship" was hauled out of mothballs and placed on a pedestal... but it was defined as "we need more of you Republicans to agree with us"!
There is NO REASON to be bipartisan if the majority is trying to pass legislation and policies in violation of your core values!! It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the GOP to stand up IN OPPOSITION to the march to socialism/marxism/fascism that the Progressives seek to foist on us!
